A world-premiere collaboration between drag artist Sasha Velour and director Moisés Kaufman, Velour: A Drag Spectacular debuted at La Jolla Playhouse in 2024. Part memoir, part performance spectacle, the production traces Velour’s evolution as an artist while weaving her personal story into the broader history of drag and queer expression. David Rockwell and the scenic team were asked to build a flexible theatrical world that could shift between intimate storytelling and full-scale spectacle, supporting lip-sync, aerial performance, and an expansive multimedia landscape.
